Workflow

I usually don’t do the grocery shopping in my family, but a few weeks ago I was summoned to pick up a few items from the store on my way home. Though slightly overwhelmed at first, I quickly noticed that the store was an intricate maze of aisles and product.

I realized this maze was creating a flow, directing people right where to go and helping shoppers have a more efficient and successful trip through the grocery store. This is by no means a mistake on the part of the grocery store.  I found similar products stocked next to each other and small items placed near the checkout lines for easy grabbing.  A lot of time, energy and money have gone into the setup of the product in a grocery store.

Much like the grocery store, ProPack has put a lot of thought and effort into the way our warehouses flow.  A flow system helps to reduce unnecessary steps thus increasing productivity, accuracy and ultimately getting orders shipped out faster.  This process is in every aspect of the warehouse.  Flow affects receiving, put away, picking, packing, shipping and more.  It zeros in on enabling employees to complete a task in the most efficient way possible.  An employee can move easily from one task to another.  For example, each client’s product has been placed in specific locations so that employees can move the product without difficulty from the picking to the shipping stage.

Employees have all the necessary tools within reach.  Everything from the forklift to the tape gun has a designated location.  This helps to ensure overall efficiency.

The grocery store had a good flow that helped to guide me through my shopping experience.  I didn’t waste time wandering around looking for the items on my list.  ProPack has worked hard to develop a flow system to optimize efficiencies and reduce waste within the warehouses.  Flow is an ever changing and continual process and will always be a priority to ProPack.
